Running commentary...

-Can't wait until the crappy voiceover gets updated.
-Poor Jesse. :(
-Demon mythology class.
-Darla is soooooo lame in this.
-Jesse is remaining awfully calm, considering.
-Yay, exposition!
-Willow's first turn as research girl for the Scooby Gang. Hacker!
-Superjumping...sometime it's possible, sometimes not.
-Xander is supposed to be Joss. Wonder which of Xander's "issues" belong to Joss and which ones to Nicky?
-Angel, also lame.
-At least this version of Angel is honest.
-NOT Amy the rat. Too early for that!
-Again, why did they need to ruin Xander? Really liked him back then. :(
-Crosses, garlic, stake to the heart. Fire, beheading, sunlight.
-Decapitation with an X-Acto knife!
-Ancient computer code. Go to END.
-Willow getting a little vengeance on. DEL(IVER)
-Would Jesse have risen already? OK, maybe. Timing seems to differ by vampire.
-Really glad Eric Balfour's acting got better.
-It's all connected. Jesse can hear the worms in the earth. Eventually, Willow can bring up flowers. It's all connected. (See what I did there...?
-When I'm the showrunner for a TV show about vampires, remind me to have some consistency in the level of strength that vampires and slayers can exhibit on a regular basis. If they can pick up a troll hammer, they should be able to bend a grate much faster.
-Show definitely got much better over time. And Big Bads definitely got better.
-Goodbye, eye!
-Godfather.
-Sharing souls? What kind of soul is that then if Angel's soul is so special?
-Early Xander vampire hatred. "I don't like vampires. I'm going to take a stand and say they aren't good."
-The Master got stuck in an earthquake 60 years ago.
-Giles at the whiteboard.
-Mom, clueless. But nice. Maybe she can make me some hot chocolate with mini marshmallows.
-Another good song!
-I am now a Jesse/Cordelia shipper!
-"You have to remember when you see him, you aren't looking at your friend. You are looking at the thing that killed him."
-Ascension number one!
-That's Dawn's pool table of magic ballet.
-It would definitely be hard on Xander. If he couldn't find even a small piece of Jesse, how could he believe there was anything good in Spike?
-Bye, Jesse!
-Bye, Vampire Extras!
-Impressed Angel certainly doesn't jive with "inspired by Buffy" Angel from the future.
-Buffy headbands and lollipops.
-The fun is just beginning!
-Maybe you could blow something up!

Only one new add to the ages this week.

The "Kids"
Mercedes McNab ... Harmony Kendall ... 16 (she turned 17 a few days after the episode aired)

I'm going to start watching season one episodes a bit faster. I really need to get to the Spike ones as soon as possible!

I'm always a little surprised by Darla when I rewatch first season... They didn't really start to make her character interesting until after she died.

Totally agree! Even if she was only intended to be a one-off vampire, she was still written pretty lame.

Yeah, I definitely liked Darla a lot better in later episodes.

Angel is so useless in this episode, he gives her directions and that's it. What exactly was his purpose, besides standing around. LOL However, I love Gilles from the start and it never ended. :D

I was surprised at how cut throat Willow was right from the start with her "Del" for "Delivery" instruction to Cordelia!

I love that Willow moment. Gave me a little frisson of joy it did.

Would have LOVED a Ripper show and/or movie!

She was definitely ready to defend herself and her friends in any way necessary from the very beginning. No wonder D'Hoffryn was keeping an eye on her.
