Current TV shows#4

There was another extra long episode of THE WALKING DEAD last night which meant a whole lot of pointless scenes combined with more commercials. Last week, we had to endure an episode focusing on the utterly boring Tara. This time around, it was Carl. Gee, thanks for that, TWD! Also had to put up with quite possibly the most overrated villain in the show's history. While I don't read the comics, I get that Negan is a big deal, but on the tv show he sucks. This episode didn't really show us anything new. Negan's a bully and a blowhard. We figured that out months ago. Show us something new. Next week is the mid-season finale (or whatever they call it) and we've had next to no progress plotwise. Do you know what I want to see? All the women in Alexandria get together and say, "Screw this! We're not going to sit here and wait until Negan makes us his next sister wives. We're leaving." Lord knows I'd be happy never to see another scene with Eugene and his painfully stilted dialogue. Why the hell is he still alive? This far in the zombie apocalypse only the most capable humans should have survived. Lucks only carries you so far.

WESTWORLD was better by comparison, but I still think it's a convoluted mess. Lots of boring speeches and plots that move at a snail's pace with disappointing payoffs. Best part? Hector and the tattooed blonde host going medieval on the Delos staff, though I have to wonder what the hell is wrong with the security in that place! Sheesh, talk about inept! There are glass walls and cameras everywhere. How hard can it be to locate your target? :? Found it difficult to care about Dolores and the maze. Just feel like the show goes nowhere and they aren't exactly taking the express route on that trip. William is the man in black. Big whoop. Why the hell was he surprised that Dolores forgot about him? She's a friggin' robot who gets reprogrammed all the time. Duh. I don't care if William thought she was "special". Ford and his flunkies are calling the shots. I did like the scene with the hosts crashing Ford's party. Naturally, it comes at the end. Been waiting all season for the hosts to go apeshit on the humans and it ends right before they attack. Only Ford's taken out. No more Anthony Hopkins. Bugger. One last gripe. I used to love Debussy's "Reverie", but after watching season one of WESTWORLD, I am sick to death of it!

Still loving ASH VS THE EVIL DEAD. I consider Bruce Campbell a national treasure :D Season Finale tomorrow night.

I haven't been commenting here because my new thing is falling asleep 3/4's through a TV show. Very disconcerting I tell ya!! I have major catch up. I have managed to stay awake for WESTWORLD though. It kept my interest and I actually did some re-watching of episodes. I liked S1 and I thought some things were brilliant and other aspects meh. I still scratch my head over the inexplicable behavior of the two human techs and there are some plot holes. Hopefully these will be explained next Season. I did appreciate that WW answered most of the questions unlike some other series **coughLOSTcough**. When I heard that HBO was doing a series based on WESTWORLD I thought it was a rather stupid idea and a truly limited one Season series. Well, I look forward to S2 and am anxious to see what the writers do. Jonathan Nolan runs this series and I have faith in him after loving PERSON OF INTEREST from start to finish.

I have purposely avoided some series on cable and Netflix so I have something to watch during the looooong hiatus. Any suggestions?

I just finished season one of THE CROWN on Netflix and I liked it a lot. Season three of Amazon's wonderful MOZART IN THE JUNGLE is now available. Must pace myself on that one. So easy to binge.

Saw the midseason finale of THE WALKING DEAD. Looks like Rick has finally decided to stop being Negan's bitch. Why this didn't happen sooner, I don't know. Sure, more Alexandria people were murdered at Negan's hands, but none of them were major characters so their deaths don't really have the same impact as Glenn's or even Abraham's. Why was last night's episode a bridge too far for Rick? What should have been his "Come to Jesus" moment was Negan getting chummy with Judith and, yet, as far as we know, Rick knows nothing about that. Whatever. I'm just glad this obsequious behavior is coming to an end. It has to now that Daryl has escaped (rather too easily, I thought). Negan's going to be none too pleased when he makes that discovery. Rick and company have to strike now. TWD is still a rather frustrating show. Newsflash, Rosita! Guns are designed to hold more than one bullet! Kind of surprised Negan left her alive in Alexandria after what happened. Thought for sure her punishment was to become a member of his personal brothel. It's a shame that Spencer died. Yes, he was a complete dope of a character, but once he cleaned up, he was pretty good looking.

I wasn't really looking forward to new episodes of THE WALKING DEAD, but I have to say last night's episode wasn't terrible. Loved the massive clothesline tackle of the zombies. You'd get penalized like crazy for that maneuver in the NFL! Finally, these people have found their backbones. Still, I'm pretty ticked off at Tara for not telling anyone about the weapons cache she found in that all female community a few episodes back. Yes, she promised to keep their existence a secret, but I say all bets are off when they tried to kill her as she was escorted out of there. "Screw you, bitches! I'm coming back and I'm bringing my seriously bad ass friends." God, would I love to see that!

Kind of annoyed that nobody told Rick about Ezekiel's tiger. "Oh, I forgot to mention that." Give me a break. That was lame when TWD pulled the same stunt with Carol and it's lame now. Also annoys me how nobody seems to have any kind of reaction. I don't care how jaded everyone is living in the zombie apocalypse. You run into a tiger, you're going to freak. I keep thinking of Chef from APOCALYPSE NOW. That's how a person would react when they unexpectedly run into Tony the Tiger.

Also bugs me how after Ezekiel turns down Rick, nobody suggests putting the issue to a vote. There are people in the Kingdom who agree with Rick. I'll bet they could recruit the majority to take out Negan. By the way, why are they even bothering talking with Gregory at the Hilltop? Does anyone give a flying fig what that twit thinks? He should have been ousted ages ago. Someone needs to inform him that he's not calling the shots anymore.

So, who did Rick's group run into at episode's end? Was Gabriel there? In any event, he sure seemed happy to see them. I'm definitely ready for a Negan smackdown. So tired of that character. If they manage to take him out and some of the other dead weight from this show (I'm looking at you Enid and Eugene!), I'll be happy.

Okay, my daughter got me watching this one and it's a doozy. The Santa Clarita Diet. Holy moly, is it ever gross and hilarious.
iZombie meets The Neighbors. Drew Barrymore is a suburban housewife/realtor married to with Mr Hottie, Timothy Oliphant! Lots of cursing, pot smoking, oral sex, egregious violence and eating of unsuspecting jerky people.
It's on Netflix, 10 episodes.

I watched Westworld last week after being nagged by GoT work colleagues who promised that I'd love it just as much as GoT. I did find it very much to be in Lost vein rather than GoT ( which didn't bode well as I quickly got fed up with Lost). First few episodes were okay, kept my interest in the next few episodes as the goings on were revealed but when it really cranked up towards the end I realised that I simply didn't give a shit about any of the characters, human or robot. And that's where shows always lose me, if they're not character driven and if there's little development in characters, I find it difficult to care about plot jiggery pokery. Maeve ( spelling?) had the most potential for me, and I liked Hector and Snake Girl, but I'm not scouring the interwebnets to get spoilers for Season 2 as I can take it or leave it.

Haven't seen Walking Dead, but watched Poldark when it was on. Had trouble keeping track of Ross and his best lover of the year/complete asshole male prick personality disorder, but look forward to more of the same next year. Ended up liking the sexy doctor more than Ross and shall write letters ( quill on salty parchment) to campaign for a spin-off.

Netflix Australia doesn't have nearly as many shows as the US Netflix but I've trawled through a few of them. Brooklyn Nine-Nine is great and they now have the full series of Peep Show which I love muchly. Must watch The Crown, as it's had great reviews.

So right about Ross Poldark, tubbyk! The guy is a hypocritical tool. Demelza deserves better. Still, he's mighty easy on the eyes.

THE CROWN is well worth the time. I enjoyed it a lot and am looking forward to season two.

Watched the first episode of THE SANTA CLARITA DIET. Must admit I didn't care for it much. Not a fan of Drew Barrymore who I find incredibly annoying.

Overall, I have mixed feelings about WESTWORLD. I feel the plot is needlessly overcomplicated. Can't help but think this show would have been much better as a mini-series. Maeve's okay and I'll watch Anthony Hopkins do anything. The rest of them? Don't care. All I want to see is the robots going apeshit on the humans like in the 1970's movie. All the philosophical mumbo jumbo about what makes us human? Ugh, give me an ever loving break!

Very disappointed (though not terribly surprised) to see yet another clunky episode of THE WALKING DEAD. Sigh. This one was all over the place. Must every new group Rick runs into be a bunch of weirdos? Seriously, did the zombie apocalypse begin a few years ago or a few centuries ago? Where the hell did this new junkyard gang come from and why must they speak in that bizarre manner? So very silly. I don't know why Rick is so trusting of them. For all he knows, they're all talk and no action. Would be kind of funny if Negan lays waste to all of them the minute he encounters them. Imagine the look on Rick's face if he did! Still annoyed at Tara for not telling anyone about that massive weapons cache she saw. Don't give Rosita shit, honey, until you step up and help the group! How much longer must we put up with Carol's sad sack act? Enough already. Daryl should have just told her the truth about Negan's batting practice on Glen and Abraham. It's not like that's going to remain a secret forever. I'll never understand why TWD takes the few really good characters (Morgan and Carol) and turns them into pussies.

Watched the first episode of BIG LITTLE LIES. I read the book so I was eager to see this. Not bad so far. The cinematography is hard to take at times. Hold the camera still, damn it! Those characters sure have some expensive homes. Problem is that no way would Ziggy (who is adorable, by the way) be attending the same school as all the other children. His mom isn't rich like the others and you know they'd be sending their kids to the priciest private schools in Monterey. Looking forward to more bitchiness between Reese Witherspoon and Laura Dern. That was the best part.

I was mightily pissed with LOST and quit halfway through S3. WESTWORLD is okay and hey!! it fills the 9 o'clock Sunday night time slot ;)

I actually binge watched THE SANTA CLARITA DIET and enjoyed it. I watched a wee bit of THE FRONTIER and may watch some more. Sure is bloody and I am the blood and guts gal on this forum.

I've watched 2 eps of THE CROWN and will watch more. Right now I prefer watching VICTORIA. One monarch at a time please.

TUBBY- BROOKLYN NINE NINE is such a great ensemble comedy. I hope it stays on for years! Some great comedies on cable right now, all on TBS....PEOPLE OF EARTH, THE DETOUR and WRECKED.

I refused to get sucked into TWD again but I slipped up and watched the last 2 eps and I am hoping for a quick dispatch of Negan. I read reviews and want him gone asap!! I refused to watch him strut his stuff and bash heads.

There are 2 shows I find to be 'appointment tv' for me....THE EXPANSE AND DC LEGENDS OF TOMORROW. For some reason I dearly love the latter and I don't know why but I do.

Forgot to mention a few more 'must see' shows for me - TABOO and BLACK SAILS. I am fascinated with Tom Hardy's grunting as well as the ongoing tension between the Crown, the East India Company and then with a backdrop and intrigue of the war with America. After every episode I kiss my vacuum cleaner and washing machine 8-) BLACK SAILS is well written and once you get passed all the talking and set-up in Season 1, then it is such an interesting ride watching all the pirate intrigue and fighting for Nassau. This is the last Season because the story of the main characters is coming to its natural conclusion and I am okay with that. BTW, Zach McGowan played pirate Charles Vane and if you want to see a heavenly body! Gah! I've liked him since he was on SHAMELESS.

LUCIFER was renewed for Season 3 :D

I watched 1 ep of LEGION and I don't know. I got a headache :? IMPOSTERS was good but I forget about it.

It's hard with all the new shows now. Remember when we only had a few decent choices? I've got cable stations I never knew I had and then mix in Netflix, Amazon (oh the additional choices there), HULU etc and etc. It's mind boggling!! It's fine for the freezing snowy times but I can't wait to get out in the fresh air..... and run into all the people with their noses stuck on their smart phones. Sigh.
